First 5

After having some time to sit down and get some paint on models I have now finished the first 5 Chaos Marines in my colour scheme.  Rather pleased with how these guys turned out.  Now just to churn out all the others!!!  I certainly feel that I've captured these guys as if they are in the middle of a campaign rather than look all nice and fresh off the assembly line.  Also I'm very pleased with how well the scheme has worked to give me a force that will work well for 40K as my Daemonkin and for 30K as Word Bearers, lets face it they were the original Daemonkin after all.

Painting

Painting, the hardest bit of the hobby for me. I enjoy painting but with a 2 year old boy I don't get much time to paint. So whenever I do get some done it's a big achievement in my books. Currently my armies consists of lots of grey unprimed and black primed models.
I do however have one model in the finished pile, my Bloodthirster

For me this is the best paint job I have ever done. It may not win any awards but every time I look at it I always think wow I actually did that.
On other fronts I have finally decided upon a paint scheme for my Chaos Marines

Initially this wasn't quite what I'd planned, I'd been inspired by the description from the codex about the Brazen Skulls and their bloodied brass armour. As you can see from the pic not quite what I was going for but I was pleased with how it looked and so I'm keeping it.
Hopefully it won't be too long until I getting paint again and then I can get few more marines to this stage.

An interesting video

The other day i was watching a video from tabletop tactics, an old episode as I've only just come across their channel, featuring a tournament list. Now I've never played in a tournament before but it has been on my wish list as something to do. Now I know tournament lists are going to be slightly different to what I'm used to but this one was just silly.
So this list was a Tau and Eldar combined list. This in itself is fine in my book. Ok two powerful armies and the lists were aimed at utilising their strengths as well. All well and good so far, not what you'd want to face every game but what you've got to expect surely for a tournament. Now this is where it went wrong for me, the guy playing this army used the Eldar Farseer to summon daemons. Why??? Just why? This just doesn't fit into the 40K theme at all in my opinion. I just can't understand why this would happen from a narrative point of view. Yes it's a tournament list and they are trying to win but you've chosen to play a game with a rich and established background that you want to totally ignore. I just can't wrap my head around it. Now there maybe some fluff out there I don't know of where this has happened but it just seems so so odd to me.
While we're at it if you play Black Templars why not say I'm not going to use their Chapter tactics just so I can take a psyker. If you want a psyker and like the Templars colour scheme etc fine but call them your own chapter name however unimaginative it might end up being, just don't ignore a huge chunk of their history and rules just to get a psyker.
Hell why not go to the extreme and build a list where you go hey who cares about the Ultramarines nearly losing their home world to Tyranids let's ally them and while we're at it take a detachment of Chaos Space Marines painted as Word Bearers as it's not like they wouldn't be forgiven for what they did to Calth etc during the Horus Heresy.
There are so many ways to play the game and use your imagination it's amazing and my rant isn't about saying you should never have an odd combination of forces. But at the end of the day you surely in part got into the game due to the background. So don't ignore it just to help you win. That's my opinion anyways.

Welcome

Well if you're reading thank you and hopefully I won't ramble too much but the warning is in the title.

So I guess I'll talk about myself for this post. My name is David I'm 30, a teacher and a proud 40K geek. I started playing Warhammer 40000 probably around the mid 90's whilst at primary school. During secondary school and through university it was much more on and off, not the cool thing to do and unfortunately I took other people's opinions to heart too much at times. After leaving university I got back into it and was more confident in myself to be a proud collector and player.

I've flittered between numerous armies in the past Orks, Space Marines of several chapters, Necrons very briefly and now finally settled on Chaos. My primary army is Khorne Daemonkin and I'm also trying to build up a Dark Mechanicum force as well.

So that's a little about me so now I guess to talk about why write a blog. I'm always thinking and researching ideas and so I thought I may as well start writing some stuff down. Partially to get my thoughts down somewhere I can look back at them and partially to save my wonderful wife, Sarah, from going mad listening to me ramble on all the time. Also this will hopefully give me a bit of motivation to paint more frequently as I document my progress.

Right that'll do for an intro hopefully I've not put you off from reading further but if I have never mind I'm a teacher so I'm used to no one listening to me!
